Sony has just whipped out the second trailer for Pixels starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad and Michelle Monaghan.
The first trailer is more focused on selling the premise and the world of the movie, whereas the second one puts the spotlight on the main characters. It would seem that most of them are washouts from the old glory that they used to be: arcade gods in the 80s. Complete with Peter Dinklage as a “dangerous criminal being released for a special mission” trope too. Anyway, scenes like soldiers whipping out miniguns to gun down Centipede or the President of United States killing the Smurf are pretty rad. Not forgetting Pac-Man chasing the Minis.
Don’t be surprised if the movie will end up with the heroes proving their worth by battling the aliens and their own personal demons, like Adam Sandler’s character has to come face to face with Donkey Kong, the game that he sucked at. The director, Chris Columbus likes to employ this kind of storytelling method as seen in his previous works like Harry Potter part 1 & 2, Goonies and Home Alone. From the looks of it, it is meant to be a family movie for sure. Kids might enjoy the cartoony actions and adults sink back to nostalgia of the arcade days.
As long as there is no joke about a deer pissing in your face ala Grown Ups.
Pixels will be in theaters on July 24, 2015.
