Xiaomi and Oppo aren’t the only two smartphone distrupters entering the Malaysian market. There’s also the lesser known Vivo and though you might dismiss it as another run-of-the-mill Chinese phone brand, think again. Their latest phone, the Vivo Xshot is coming to Malaysia and it’s packing a whole lot of snapper-centric features. So what’s so great about the Vivo? You know everytime some new tech comes out? Well Vivo is usually one of the first companies to cram as much of that new tech into their phones. Add in a fondness for high-end audio chips, and you have a recipe for some high performing, great sounding phones. They’re of course continuing that tradition with their latest phone, the Xshot.

Super shooter

So what makes the Xshot a super shooter? Well let’s just check the camera it comes with. The main back camera has a 13-megapixel sensor which seems normal enough by most flagship standards. However the Vivo Xshot is one of the first smartphones to utilise  both Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) tech and the fast f/1.8 lens speed together. Pretty impressive right? The only downside to this is that because Vivo is also trying to keep the Xshot slim, that high-performance camera lens does look like its sticking out like a sore thumb from the phone. No matter though, for some that’s just a minor issue. The camera-crazy love doesn’t end there though. Other camera-centric features include a two-stage shutter button, a dual-tone LED flash (for great selfies in total darkness), and 4k video capture. It’s not just the back camera that’s good, the front looks like it has some pretty decent specs too. You get an 8-megapixel sensor that can also record 720p videos.

Great specs too

Count that. Not 1, not 2 but 3 audio related chips. They really like the pack it in

Vivo hasn’t skimped on the rest of the phone either. Actually there’s two versions of the Xshot and both are pretty decently kitted out. For the “flagship” version, the insides are powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The slightly scaled down “elite” version comes with the 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Both will have up to 128GB of microSD support and come with a 1080p, 5.2-inch LCD screen and 2600mAh battery. Need LTE? No problem as both are also LTE compatible.  The Xshot will be loaded up with Android 4.4 KitKat and dressed up with Vivo’s on Funtouch UI. We also mentioned Vivo’s love of high-end audio chips right? Well the Xshot isn’t sacrificing sound for images either as it manages to pack the Maxim MAX97220 headphone amplifier, a Cirrus CS4398 DAC, and a Texas Instrument TLV320 ADC chip into the Xshot’s slim frame.

So when are we getting it?

It’s coming real soon to Malaysia and we already have the official prices for Xshot. Both the flagship and elite models will be hitting Malaysia and they’ll be price at RM1599 and RM1799 respectively. Pre-orders will begin on 21 July and you can make your orders via their webiste here.
