Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

With the Ghost in the Shell live-action getting lots of flak from both fans and critics, it’s safe to say that the franchise is getting a lot of publicity, good or bad. And though the last anime of the franchise, Ghost in the Shell: Arise was released just two years ago (2015), it looks like we’re due for ANOTHER new Ghost in the Shell anime.

The new Ghost in the Shell announcement was made by Kodansha and Production I.G and the anime will be co-directed by Kenji Kamiyama who directed the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series, and Shinji Aramaki who directed another one of Shirow Masamune’s works, Appleseed.

Aside from confirmation of the new Ghost in the Shell anime, no other details were revealed so we won’t know if it’ll be a new series, movie or OVA. Kamiyama had earlier in September, teased that he wanted “to report” on new information about Ghost in the Shell “in the near future”. This was in response to a fan inquiring about a possible third season of the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series.

It’s great to see that Production I.G will still be involved in the production of the new Ghost in the Shell anime. They’ve been there since day one, having produced both Mamoru Oshii’s take on the series as well as the newer Stand Alone Complex series and the Arise movie. And with a Kamiyama and Aramaki involved, we’re pretty sure this is going to be an awesome production.
