2. Marvel’s Secret Wars
The keyword for the Big Two publishers this year seems to be “multiverse”. Marvel’smajor crossover event will also be involving multiple Earths, and is called Secret Wars. Yes, its kind of like a reboot of the ground-breaking 1984 event that not only introduced Spider-Man’s black costume, but also kick-started the whole trend of having company-wide crossovers events.
The upcoming 8-issue Secret Wars core series will spin-off from the Time Runs Out event that is currently playing out on Jonathan Hickman’s current run on Avengers and New Avengers. It will feature a new Battleworld, with superheroes and villains from different Earths coming together to battle it out.
Written by Hickman (who also wrote Marvel’s 2012 Infinity event) and drawn by Esad Ribic, this event could have serious repercussions for the Marvel universe, with rumours circulating about yet another company-wide relaunch after the event.
Hickman’s New Avengers and Avengers has already explored the notion of multiple Earths, as has the current ongoing Spider-verse story. With the space time continuum remaining broken after Age of Ultron, Secret Wars might just be the thing to glue everything together.
