3. Star Wars returns to Marvel
The Force will be strong with 2015. Not only is there a new Star Wars movie coming out (yay!), the Star Wars comics line will also be returning to the publisher that started it all – Marvel.
Marvel was, after all, the first publisher to release Star Wars comics in 1977, a run that continued until 1986. Dark Horse Comics took over the license in 1991, and did a bang-up job of expanding the Star Wars universe with their various titles; but with Disney buying not just Marvel but Lucasfilm as well, Star Wars seemed destined to return to Marvel one day.
That day is coming sooner than you think, with Marvel already announcing three titles for 2015 – Star Wars by Jason Aaron and John Cassidy (which recently became the top-selling single-issue comic book of the last twenty years, with direct orders surpassing one million even before the issue hits the stores); Star Wars: Darth Vader by Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca in February, and five-issue miniseries Star Wars: Princess Leia by Mark Waid and artist Terry Dodson in March.
With Marvel announcing they will be reissuing the original trilogy Star Wars comics from 1977 in the run-up to the new movie, it is a good year to be a Star Wars comics fan indeed.
