The BattleTech KickStarter is finally here!
Harebrained Schemes, the team behind the Shadowrun Returns, have finally kicked off the BattleTech crowdfunding project they teased earlier in July. The project will also have big names Jordan Weisman (BattleTech, MechWarrior, SR:R) , Mike McCain (Shadowrun Returns) and Mitch Gitelman (MechCommander) involved, so the project is already off to a good start.
Here’s a taste of the plot:
Following centuries of space colonization and the rise of six Great Noble Houses, treachery undermined the Star League and toppled its First Lord. The rulers of the five remaining Houses each proclaimed themselves the new First Lord, and so the Succession Wars began – hundreds of years of mechanized armies, scavenged technology, and political machinations.
Now, in 3025, each faction is near its breaking point. An uneasy stalemate sets in as the Houses scrape to rebuild their holdings, reinforce their worlds, and restock their ‘Mech armies. But the conflict continues as the nobility drives their agendas forward covertly through the use of mercenaries…
The game looks like it indeed will be sticking close to its roots with single player tactical style gameplay very similar to the original. This also means they will be meshing RPG style Mech and MechWarrior management with modern turn based tactics. If they manage to hit some of their stretch goals, they might include PVP multiplayer as well.
The game will be out for the PC, Linux and Mac platforms in early 2017.
It’s been a great year for remakes and revisits to series we all know and love and given Harebrained’s track record, they’re unlikely to disappoint. So far the project already has greatly exceeded the needed funding so they’re likely to hit a lot of their stretch goals, awesome!
