Geralt, our ever loving, monster slaying Witcher will be headed to the big screen pretty soon as a live-action movie has been confirmed for 2017.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, The Witcher started as a series of novels and stories by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski that was then adapted into a series of hugely popular video games of the same name. The lore, sprawling landscapes and complex characters have sucked in many a man, and some are still wandering around in a land full of grizzled warriors, magic and uh, copious booty.

The main character of the games is Geralt of Rivia, who depending on the player’s actions could be slaying monstrous beasts for coin or wandering the landscape in search of herbs for his strange potions. Its a vast world out there boy, the plot won’t move unless you want it to!

The movie adaptation of The Witcher will be helmed by produced Sean Daniel, known for the Mummy series of movies and their related spinoffs. They will be working alongside Platige Films, who are responsible for creating some of The Witcher‘s awesome cinematics. Filmmaker Tomek Baginski will be making his feature debut with this film, and Thania St.John is writing the screenplay.

Signs are pointing towards the film being a live-action gig, but there’s no official word just yet. However, we do know that the film will be the first in a series of movies and is based on themes from the short stories ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Lesser Evil’ from ‘The Last Wish’ collection. So more like the books, less like the games.

Hopefully it won’t be as bad as The Witcher movie that debuted in 2001 (called the Hexer) that had a pretty meh reception.
