Astro has marked another milestone as they announced their Every Good Game or eGG channel, a dedicated round the clock eSports and gaming channel, a first in Southeast Asia.
eSports Enthusiast will be able to catch various eSports tournament from League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, to StarCraft II and more, via Astro and Astro on the Go on eGG channel 808 in Malaysia starting June 2016.
The introduction of the channel is a response to the growing popularity of eSports among the Millennials, as it is expected to reach 218 million audience worldwide at the end of 2016
Astro’s vice president of sports Lee Chong Khay, explained that a dedicated 24/7 eSports channel, eGG will play a pivotal role in bringing together a connected ASEAN community of eSports fans.
He said, “eGG plans to partner with main game organisers and developers to bring live top tier global tournaments as well as on demand content featuring pubstomps, gaming walkthrough, expert guides, documentaries, game house tours and weekly highlights”.
The launch of eGG is no surprise as Astro was the first in ASEAN to do a live television broadcast Dota 2 The International 5 Championship, last year. The overwhelming response of the younger demographic paved the way for more eSports broadcast.
With the launch of the channel, Astro believes that eSports fan can enjoy game broadcast together with friends, just like watching a live football match.
The media group believes that eSports viewing is best suited on bigger screens so that the fans can enjoy their favorite events live in full HD together with fellow fans just like watching a live football match.
eGG channel 808 will be made available for Free to all Astro and Astro on the Go customers in Malaysia starting June, 2016.
