The amazing Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai stars the titular physicist, neurosurgeon, test pilot, and rock musician who must defend the planet against reptilian aliens from Planet 10.
The cult classic film has been pitched to MGM by Kevin Smith – longtime geek, writer and director. Revealed on an episode of his podcast Hollywood Babble-On, Smith says the studio liked the pitch so much they are currently shopping it around to find production partners.
The proposed series would cover the plot of the film during the first season, and then in the second season do the never-produced but teased during the credits sequel: Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension was released in 1984 and stars Sons of Anarchy’s Peter Weller, as well as names like Christopher Lloyd, Jeff Goldblum, John Lithgow, and Ellen Barkin.
On television, Kevin Smith most recently directed an episode of the Flash, and has finished production of a half-hour comedy series called Hollyweed. His film work includes the Clerks series, religious comedy Dogma, and horror film Red State.
