The new trailer for the all-female (and Chris Hemsworth) led remake of the 80s comedy horror classic revels in silliness, isn’t afraid to show off some CGI (and Chris Hemsworth).
The new Ghostbusters trailer seems almost calculated to respond to the controversy kicked off by the previous one, featuring lines like “I think you girls can handle it” and “Are [these new Ghostbusters] to be taken seriously?” while also showing off more of Chris Hemsworth and his hilarible Australian accent.
This second trailer also eschews the piano driven theme and treats us to a remix of the iconic song, which for most nerds should have a direct line straight to the nostalgia centers of their soul.
Ghostbusters follows four paranormal investigators fighting slime in New York City, played by Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. The film is helmed by Paul Feig, who has collaborated with Wiig and McCarthy on several past projects, including 2011’s Bridesmaids and 2015’s Spy.
Reaction to the first trailer, which debuted in March, was sharply polarized, although that hasn’t stopped it from accruing over 32 million views on YouTube. Feig’s recent filmography has received mixed to highly positive acclaim, with Bridesmaids being nominated for 2 Academy Awards. Although he did not write Bridesmaids, Feig is co-screenwriter on Ghostbusters with fellow collaborator Katie Dippold, with whom he co-wrote 2013’s The Heat.
