In a rather unexpected appearance during Apple’s September event, Nintendo’s chief game designer Shigeru Miyamoto announced and demoed Super Mario Run, a game that’s a whole lot of Mario with some Flappy Bird sprinkled in.

Visually, Super Mario Run doesn’t look at all different from the various Super Mario games that have spawned throughout the franchise. However, the gameplay has changed quite a bit.

Instead of you controlling all of Mario’s actions, you will tap on a button to make him move. How long you press will determine how high and far he will jump; with special blocks that can change his direction, speed or simply make Mario do things when he comes into contact with them.

You can also race against the ghost runs of friends if you enjoy versus mode; with the game set to arrive on iOs this December, with the Android version to arrive sometime after.
