Rogue One is looking like a standalone film, as Lucasfilm won’t be making a sequel regardless of how the movie performs at the box office.
The move makes sense considering that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a prequel to the original Star Wars: A New Hope, which doesn’t really leave much in the way of wiggle room for a sequel. Plus it really doesn’t make sense (to us) to make a sequel anyhow.
While Rogue One tells the story of rebel spies who attempt to steal the plans for the first Death Star, it has also been speculated that the film’s characters ultimately don’t survive to see the fruits of their labour.
But don’t fret, there’s always Han Solo’s Anthology films to look forward to at least, along with new Star Wars movies for the new few years or so.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker, and is set to drop 15 December 2016.
