Some new information about the Nintendo Switch is out, especially about backward compatibility and other related stuff. Read on for more.
The information basically comes from Kotaku, who shot Nintendo a slew of questions regarding their latest console.
For starters, the Switch won’t be backwards compatible with any of the Wii, Wii U and 3Ds games, and is not compatible with controllers designed for other systems as of the moment. While they might be adding support for certain controllers at a later date, there’s no new information about the Virtual Console or digital downloads at the moment.
They also didn’t have anything to say about the Switch being able to connect to existing Wii U and 3DS accounts. There won’t be any games being bundled in with the Nintendo Switch either, which is sad.
As for the 32GB of internal storage, they’ve confirmed that you can’t use an external USB hard drive with the Switch yet, but they’re certainly looking into it. As for the rest of us, better grab the biggest microSD card you can find.
For those who like to grab screenshots from their games, there’s already a capture button on the left Joy-Con controller but the Switch cannot yet capture video. Nintendo is planning on adding the feature though, so we might be seeing Twitch and YouTube support come along with it.
If you were looking forward to the Miiverse, you’ll find that its a little different on the Switch. You can still use the Mii Maker on the Switch, but it’s not a standalone application on the home menu, instead accessed though the System Settings. You also get more options to customise your Mii, like more facial components and hair colours are now available, but these features have been removed: creator’s name, favorites, birthday, copying, and “public.”
Last but not least, the Switch isn’t region locked. Not new news, but they’re still recommending that players buy games within their region fo full support.
The Nintendo Switch comes 3 March 2017.
