Disney‘s upcoming Mulan reboot apparently isn’t going to contain any songs, and will be taking a more gritty and realistic approach.
Mulan is just one in the deluge of animated movies that Disney is converting into live-action, and the director for the movie, Niki Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland, USA, The Zookeeper’s Wife) said there won’t be any songs in the movie.
Aside from that, she describes the movie to be “a big, girly martial arts epic. It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving” we’re not entirely sure what this means yet, but Mulan sounds like it will be flying on a lot of Girl Power.
While we might not be getting “I’ll Make A Man Out of You” as a right out song, but they could include it somewhere in the film like they did in the credits of Cinderella. Given that the movie is still fairly early in production so there’s a chance that Disney might change their minds somewhere along the line.
We have to worry about Mushu though, because if they are going for a more realistic approach, the little red dragon guardian that acts as the comic relief and Mulan’s sidekick throughout the movie, might be absent.
Mulan hits the theaters 2 November, 2018.
