Few days ago, director Ruari Robinson (The Last Days of Mars) who got nominated for Academy Award in Best Short Film unveiled a very ambitious teaser for a full feature length movie proposal called The Leviathan. Many people called it stunning and it is notable that the concept trailer has already hit 1.3 million plus views which attracted Hollywood interest.
Deadline reports that producers Simon Kinberg (X-Men, Cinderella) and Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) have joined The Leviathan project. Kinberg will be the producer and Blomkamp is the executive producer for the project. Jim Uhls (Fight Club) will be penning the script. Fox is rumoured to be the first studio to show serious interest in the project but with enough buzz of The Leviathan, the project will have little trouble to find someone interested enough to make it.
The official synopsis is:
By the early 22nd century mankind had colonized many worlds. Faster than light travel was made possible by harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those that take part in the hunt are mostly involuntary labor.
From the trailer, we can see influences from Dune where mankind has to harvest something from a powerful and dangerous creatures for critical component in interstellar travel. And the feel of the hunt like Moby Dick with human crews on fragile looking ships looking for the creature in hostile environment.
It certainly looks fantastic.
