Sony’s press conference dropped quite a few thermonuclear weapon equivalent bombshells this time – announcing games like the long dormant The Last Guardian, the Kickstarter campaign to get Shenmue III made and of course, the HD remake of Final Fantasy VII.

Shenmue, one of the most successful franchises ever to grace the long defunct Sega Dreamcast is described as one of the most beautiful games during its height of glory. It is an open world  adventure game, first conceived in 1999 by Sega’s genius, Yu Suzuki.  Yakuza, the famous Sega franchise is the direct descendant to the ethereal Shenmue. Not only that, games like GTA or even Fallout owed their lineage to Shenmue. Shenmue III is meant to be direct sequel to its earlier iterations.

It is been featured in few “greatest video games of all time” lists. The game is listed for PC and PS4 on its KickStarter page. The pledge already breached 50 percent of its goal in less than few hours after the announcement.

Now, next is the confirmation of The Last Guardian.

Long dormant since its impressive 2009 E3 debut trailer, the game is restarted and scheduled to be in the market next year. Conceived by the creator of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, the game had been in development hell ever since. After the creator, Fumito Ueda left Sony, things are not looking good. However, the creator setup his own team, genDesign to work as a contractor for Sony and this is the result:

In his own words at his website : “Not long ago, a group of like-minded developers who I’ve been making games with for years joined me to form a new studio, genDesign. Together, our goal is to break through preconceived notions of what games can be by exploring the creative possibilities of the medium.”

The game is showing a young boy who has made friends with a giant bird/cat hybrid creature, Trico. They have to work together to escape and evade the guards who are trying to capture them. The gameplay seems to suggest that player needs to handle Trico like a real animal with food rewards and also using the animal to climb and reach high, remote places.
