Ariane Labed, the Greek-born French actress who captivated the audience at Cannes with the sci-fi movie The Lobster is confirmed to be in movie adaptation of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed. The movie is to be directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth, The Turning) under New Regency and stars Micheal Fassbender (300, X-Men) and Marion Cotillard (Big Fish, Inception). So we have a German (Fassbender), a Frenchman (Cotillard) and now a Greek (Labed). It certainly reflects the game’s origin with an all out European cast – two titles set in Italy, one set in Constantinople, one in France and the latest title is set in Victorian London.
Frank Marshall, Arnon Milchan, Jean-Julien Baronnet, Conor McCaughan, Fassbender and Pat Crowley are producing. Bill Collage (Exodus: Gods and Kings), Adam Cooper (Exodus: Gods and Kings) and Michael Lesslie (Macbeth) are co-writers for the movie.
She won the Best Actress award in Venice for her role in Attenberg (2010) and Locarno Best Actress award last year in Alice’s Odyssey. So suffice to say, she is considered one of the best and capable actress up and coming from Europe now.
New Regency and Ubisoft invested a lot of money and hope in this adaptation, afterall, the game franchise sold over 91 million units worldwide. Production is set in later this year for a 21 December 2016 release through Fox.
