Star-Trek-Beyond

After rewriting the script and a last minute change of director, Star Trek 3 is finally on its way to production in Vancouver. The film was supposed to start filming a good two months ago in April but it did not go as planned. Paramount Studio felt the original script was too “Star Trek-ky” according to Simon Pegg and ordered a rewrite to make it more crowd friendly.

Director of Fast and Furious 6, Justin Lin is the director this time with Simon Pegg and Doug Jung prepping up the script.

The cast has been reunited – Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana were all spotted in Vancouver. A new member of the cast, Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Thor) is set to be the villain this time. Quinto and Saldana have been teasing the fans on social media lately. Quinto, in tribute to late Leonard Nimoy, posted a photo of freshly plucked eyebrows and sporting a Spock-like hairstyle on Instagram. Not missing a beat, Saldana posted a picture of her sitting in a trailer while being getting ready for the shot.

In other developments, the dynamic duo (Pine & Quinto)  quietly signed a deal with Paramount for one more Star Trek movie option according to THR. Not only that, it is reported that Chris Pine will get massive pay raise for the fourth movie. To recap, he was only paid US$600,000 in 2009 movie then bumped up to US$1.5 million for Into the Darkness. In the third installment, his paycheck is reported to be around US$3 million and with this new deal, he will be getting double that amount.

Star Trek 3 will beam up at the cinemas on 8 July 2016.
