DC has confirmed that Tao Okamoto will be playing Mercy Graves in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She is the Wolverine’s love interest, Mariko in the Hugh Jackman’s 2013 flick.
For those who have no idea just who is Mercy Graves, she is the personal assistant and bodyguard of Lex Luthor. She made her debut in Superman: The Animated Series back in 1996. She was popular enough with the fans that she becomes a permanent fixture in the DC universe. Besides her traditional role as the bodyguard/personal assistant of Lex Luthor, she did become CEO of LexCorp and costumed crime fighter Vanilla.
Prior to the New 52 relaunch of the DC comic continuity, Mercy turns out to be another Amazon like Diana Price/Wonder Woman from Themyscira. As the result, she has similar powers and abilities. We do not know if Zack Synder will incorporate this into the movie but it would be interesting if it did happen. Afterall, Wonder Woman turns out to be few hundred years old in this movie so there is some potential history between two if this is included in the movie.
For now though, in the trailer breakdown recently issued by DC, she seems to be fit into the role as the personal assistant of Lex Luthor more than the bodyguard aspect. She is shown escorting the corpse of General Zod for some research in the trailer.
We shall see Okamoto-san doing her personal assistant gig in the cinemas on 25 March 2016.
