If you like side scrolling action and are a Final Fantasy fan, this fan-game might be right up your alley. Called Final Fantasy VII : Re-Imagined, the indie project is a 2D side-scrolling beat-em up (currently) featuring Cloud and Tifa. So far the game is looking pretty fluid, and in addition to slicing and punching your enemies to a pulp, you can summon and do a bit of magic too.
The game currently has one level complete and it does support local co-op gameplay if you want to rope a housemate in on the action.
However Square Enix is quite well known for squashing fan projects in the name of protecting their IP, as has befallen the fate of many Chrono Trigger/Cross and Final Fantasy projects. So if the project mysteriously disappears into the aether, we know why.
In the mean time can grab the game’s demo here via direct download, play by browser, or check out the trailer below.
