After his big brawl with Iron Man at the tail end of Captain America: Civil War, the Cap leaves his shield and walks away with Bucky. The reason is more than just symbolic however. Read on for more.
Co-director Joe Russo revealed this in an interview with the Huffington Post that Cap dropping his shield at the end of the movie symbolises that he was letting go of the Captain America identity:
“I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity. [It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”
Chris Evans is still starring in Avengers: Infinity War so its likely he will still appear as Captain America. There’s also a chance that Bucky or Falcon (the Winter Soldier apparently is making an appearance) will pick up his shield instead. Or maybe Rogers will just literally get killed by Thanos. Hopefully more of the former than the latter.
Either way, we’ll find out when the movie hits 4 May 2018.
