4. Hal Jordan: Heroic Green Lantern and Homicidal Maniac
Hal Jordan pretty much has always been the archetypal Green Lantern, the man without fear (no, not that one) and perennial protector of Space Sector 2814. Apart from that one time in the early 1990’s when his home, Coast City, and all it’s inhabitants was destroyed, he lost his mind and pretty much destroyed the Green Lantern Corps, that is. After a relatively short career as the villain Parallax, Hal went on to redeem himself by helping to re-ignite our dying sun, dying himself in the process before he then become the Spirit of Vengeance (no not that one) The Spectre. Of course if you read a Justice League or Green lantern comic today Hal Jordan is right back front and centre, but how could this be? Could DC just cast aside all that character development? Short answer: yes. After explaining away all Hal’s dastardly deeds as the actions of an alien parasite also called Parallax, “heroic Hal” has been thoroughly rehabilitated with barely a speck on his reputation although it’s unknown if that time he dated a teenager is still canon.
