Recently Guillermo del Toro, the man who gave us the awesomely fun Pacific Rim in 2013, revealed that there might be two more movies instead of just a sequel. This in effect makes Pacific Rim a trilogy.

He said, “some of your favorite characters come back, some others don’t because we have decided that we’re going to shoot ambitiously and say ‘Let’s hope we have three movies,’ so some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one.

He hinted that 80% of characters will be brand new in the sequel. Most fans of Pacific Rim are speculating that there will be combining Jaegers and a Mecha Godzilla like version for future Kaiju.

One thing’s for sure, the excitement of watching 30-40 storey tall mecha pummeling a big monster to save the mankind from extinction is terribly exciting. There is also plan for an anime series to connect the first and second movies. Not much details about that one yet. except it might be a 1 cour series (13 episodes)

Del Toro, who is famous for his big time Otaku presence, and for his works like the  Hellboy movies, Pan’s Labyrinth and Blade 2 is currently busy directing the horror film Crimson Peak. He is also about done with the pilot episode of the TV series The Strain.

Pacific Rim 2 is scheduled to hit the cinemas on 7 April 2017.

Let’s cancel the Apocalypse one more time.
