Sometime last year, we published that LEGO had greenlighted the LEGO Ideas Voltron set for production. It’s safe to assume that the set is one of the most anticipated LEGO with legions of Voltron and LEGO fans just waiting to see what the final product will be like.
Well, you don’t have to wait anymore as LEGO has officially unveiled the LEGO Voltron set and it comes in a whopping 2,321 pieces and will be 15 inches tall once it’s fully built.
The Defender of the Universe LEGO set was originally a LEGO Ideas entry created by Leandro Tayag, a Filipino software architect who is a LEGO enthusiast and giant robot fan residing in Malaysia.
His creation received overwhelming support and in August 2017, LEGO announced that it was one of the submitted LEGO Ideas set that they will be releasing as an official set. It’s been almost a year since the announcement and we’re now finally able to get our hands on this awesome set.
The LEGO Ideas Voltron set will pretty limited and the price has already been set at US$179.90. It’ll be available to the general public from 1st August though lucky Sandiego Comic Con (SDCC) goers next month (July) will be able to get their hands on it earlier.

The LEGO Ideas Voltron set is based on the classic Defenders of the Universe series and not the current revived Netflix series. The original Voltron: Defenders of the Universe series was based on the anime Beast King GoLion from Japan and was adapted into English by World Event Productions during the 80s.
It became really popular internationally, despite the original Japanese anime only running for one season. It spawned a bunch of sequels over the years but only in the last three years came back into the spotlight when Dreamworks and Netflix worked together to reboot the entire series.
With the classic Voltron getting it’s official LEGO set, let’s hope Leandro would want to work on the modern version of the mecha and LEGO will pick it up again.
