After news got out about the “Love and Sex with Robots” congress that’s set to happen in November Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz wants to give it the axe.
Its seems to be a Malaysian tradition to cancel events on a whim, and this scientific conference looks to be the next victim.
The reason given for cutting down the conference is that the event will “offend the sensitivities of Malaysians” as such things go against societal norms. Secondly, the conference is apparently using the Tourism Malaysia logo without permission and Tourism Malaysia doesn’t want to be associated with such a conference. Oops.
The Second International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots will be held on Nov 16 in Iskandar Johor. It will be chaired by City University London’s Prof Adrian Cheok and Intelligent Toys Limited’s chief officer, Dr David Levy, the website said. Among the thirteen topics that will be discussed will include Robot Personalities, Teledildonics, Intelligent Electronic Sex Hardware and Gender Approaches.
