Now, we have a glimpse of the upcoming live action movie that is based on a very popular mecha franchise back in 90s, Patlabor.
Cinema Today posted a one minute clip of The Next Generation -Patlabor- written/directed by Mamoru Oshii (Sky Crawlers, Ghost in the Shell), showing a scene where two police Patlabors, the AV-98 Ingram is engaging a stealth helicopter nicknamed “Gray Ghost” on a bridge.
Some fans say it looks like the Yokohama Bay Bridge that is later destroyed in Patlabor 2: The Movie. The story focuses on the incident where members of 2nd Special Vehicles Section tackles a group of terrorists who take 10 million people in Tokyo hostage. The runtime of the movie will be around 100 minutes.
The movie’s music score will be directed by the famous Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works movie) with scripting by Mamoru Oshii and Kei Yamamura. The main casts stars Erina Mano, Seiji Fukushi and Rina Ota with Toshio Kakei as the brilliant Captain Gotoda.
The movie is scheduled for next year after the completion of the 13 live action episodes which are divided into seven chapters, currently showing at selected Japanese cinemas. After some complex math-crunching, I reckon the release to be at the end of April to beginning of May 2015.
Can’t wait!
