Rumours are abound that toy giants Hasbro and Mattel are in talks for a potential merger. What would this spell for the entire toy market?

The news came from Bloomberg Business, with the report stating that the negotiations apparently have been ongoing since late 2015; with more negotiations to take place over the next few months.

The reason why this is so massive is that a merger between the two companies would bring together toy franchises like Hasbro’s Transformers, G.I Joe, My Little Pony and Mattel’s Hot Wheels, Barbie, Fisher Price and others under one roof. Thus beginning what would be the biggest monopoly on the toy market ever created.

This is taking into account that Hasbro has license to produce toys from the Star Wars and Marvel Comics IPs, while Mattel has the licence for DC Comics toys.

No other details have been released but both brands are keeping mum about the negotiations. Time will tell on what they are planing next but we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground.
