Jolla, a company staffed by former Nokia folks shows off the newest device under the brand – the Jolla Tablet. What’s unique about this tablet is that it’s crowdsourced and backers can purchase it for just US$189 (RM635).

A 7.85-inch, Full HD (2048×1536) IPS display graces its surface, also packed with an Intel 1.8GHz quad-core CPU with 2GB RAM inside. Storage is 32GB with an optional microSD card slot that supports additional storage of up to 32GB.

It’s considerably lightweight at 384g inclusive of the 4300mAh battery that powers it.

A conventional rear 5MP shooter with 60fps 1080p recording capability and a 2MP front camera rounds up the package.

Size wise, it’s 203mm x 137mm x 8.3mm. Pretty slim for a tablet.

Sailfish 2.0 Interface

The Jolla tablet software is the company’s own Sailfish 2.0 which can run on smartphones and tablets. The gesture-based UI is designed for bigger displays and the core ability is to do real multitasking.

The company assures that there is no backdoor for anyone to snoop on users without consent (don’t they all?).

The company managed to get enough funds through its Indiegogo pledge site to proceed with the production of the tablet – 2,000 units will be the initial batch next year May.
