Nintendo’s collaboration with Niantic Labs for their AR game Pokemon Go now has a rough release date and pricing for the optional gadget you can use to play it.
The device is called the Pokemon Go Plus, and it will let players play the game without needing to take out their phone. It will retail for $34.99 if you’re interested in picking one up.
Pokemon Go runs quite similar to Ingress (also developed by Niantic Labs) where you use your smartphones to search out and catch Pokemon in the surrounding area. Players can also opt to use their smartphone cameras to make Pokemon appear on the streets as well, if you’ve always wanted to feel like a real Pokemon trainer.
As you collect more Pokemon and train them, the more experience you collect and you grow more powerful as a result. This will allow users to capture even stronger and rarer Pokemon, with catching Pokemon also rewarding players with “candy” that can then be used to evolve Pokemon.
While Nintendo didn’t say how often you’ll sight legendary Pokemon, they’re looking into hosting events in cities that will allow players to catch said legendaries. Trading however is still in development, and we likely won’t be seeing that til after launch.
They’re also working on some form of connectivity between Pokemon Go ad the newly announced Pokemon Sun and Moon.
The game will launch sometime in July and will be free to play on both iOS and Android. The Pokemon Go Plus is totally optional.
