Forest Whitaker ( The Butler, Taken 3) was been confirmed to join the casting for Star Wars: Rogue One. The report also indicated that after this gig, he will be starring in another movie, the rebooted version of The Crow.
Now, we have Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna, Sam Claflin, and Riz Ahmed. With the Oscar winning actor as newest addition to the cast, the lineup looks pretty solid. Forest Whitaker will be in an “unspecified” role for now. Jones, Ahmed and Luna are part of “rogue band of resistence fighters who unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy.” The director, Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) drew inspiration from famous war flicks like Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down so it is we can safely assuming that this spin-off will be more militaristic than usual Star Wars fare.
The timeline of the story is rumoured to be in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Ben Mendesohn is cast at the villain for Rogue One. Fans are speculating that the movie might have a mix of old and new droids or aliens to create a sense of continuity between both trilogies. The director did commented that the fight is “up to a group of new heroes who don’t have magical powers” at the recent Star Wars Celebration. Which means no Jedi tricks.
The movie will be battling at the cinemas on 16 December 2016.
