Nintendo announced that the animated short, Star Fox: The Battle Begins will be streamed live this Wednesday, ahead of the debut of the latest installment of the series, Star Fox Zero on Friday.

Star Fox Zero would be the sixth installment in the series after an 11-year hiatus , with the last game to grace home console being Star Fox Assault.

The Star Fox: The Battle Begins would be the series first-ever animated short for the series and it will feature characters of the upcoming game. The animated short is directed by Shigeru Miyamoto with the collaboration of WIT Studio and Production I.G. of Attack on Titan and Ghost in the Shell fame.

Alongside the release of Star Fox Zero is the companion game, Star Fox Guard a tower defense game that was first announced in 2014’s E3 under the title Project Guard. It will be bundled alongside the retail version of Star Fox Zero.

The Star Fox series is one of the signature franchise for Nintendo, starting with the 1993 side scrolling rail shooter, Star Fox for SNES. It was the debut for the Star Fox Squad, Fox McCloud, and his team Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare and Falco Lombardi.
