Legendary Pictures was rumoured to be making a grab for a Pokemon movie, and it looks like they’ve got it!

They’ve apparently been trying to snag the rights for some time now and the film will be a live-action film built around Detective Pikachu; who happens to be a star of his own game Great Detective Pikachu on the Nintendo 3DS.

Here’s the game’s general story:

The game follows a peculiar talking Pikachu who, despite not being as powerful and nimble as other Pikachu of his kind, is rather intelligent and claims to be a great detective. One day, Pikachu encounters a boy named Tim Goodman, who is able to understand what he is saying. Thus, the two begin working together to solve various mysteries revolving around Pokémon in the city.

This would be rather interesting because not only do we have a talking Pikachu, it’s going to be live-action too.

Legendary is planning to begin production next year with Universal Pictures as their distributor. No other solid deets are out yet for the movie  but given how popular Pokemon is right now, its unlikely to be the last.
