Despite the reports that Channing Tatum might walk out of Gambit last week, THR confirms that the star of Magic Mike has closed the deal with Fox after intense negotiation.
The sources said his involvement was never in danger since the star was already promoting his role big time, including his surprise appearance at X-Men panel during SDCC 2015. Channing Tatum has been already pushing for this role for years even before being cast as Gambit – hosting an AMA session in Reddit, talking about the costumes etc during press conference for Magic Mike XXL and more.
Pundits are wondering if Tatum’s issue with the studio comes from Gambit’s potential involvement in the X-Men cinematic universe so he can make multiple appearances like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine or backend compensation/ profit sharing. He is set to produce the movie along with Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner with Rupert Wyatt (Planet of the Apes) as the director. The script is done by Josh Zeturner (Robocop 2014), based on a treatment written by Chris Claremont (co-creator of Gambit and legendary writer of X-Men comic series).
Looks like the show is on, folks.
