One of the saddest moments in 2016 came right at the end, with the passing of Carrie Fisher AKA Princess Leia. As Max von Sydow said in The Force Awakens, “To me, she is royalty.” And she always will be.

It’s no secret that Carrie Fisher’s then Princess, now General Leia Organa was set to play an important role in the final instalment of the new Star Wars trilogy. However, with her sudden passing, major changes are currently being made to the script.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Director of Star Wars: Episode IX, Colin Trevorrow – Jurassic World, Safety Not Guaranteed – discussed the challenges that they’re facing.

She was a major character, that’s not a secret. She really was. And it was extremely sad for all of us, mostly just because she was so loved by the Star Wars family and everyone that worked with her. I feel like our options are limited mostly by ourselves, in that there is only certain things that we are willing to do. But I can guarantee it will be handled with love and respect, and all of the soul that Carrie Fisher deserves.

We look forward to seeing Carrie Fisher’s final outing as General Leia in Star Wars: The Last Jedi this December. Rest in peace, Carrie Fisher and may the force be with you.
