The 3DCG based on Hiroya Oku’s hit Gantz manga will be out in Japan under the title GANTZ:O on October 14. The announcement made by those involved with the adaptation also includes visuals and information regarding the story arc adapted for the upcoming film.

The manga’s infamous Osaka story arc has been revealed as the plot for the 3DCG adaptation. In which, the Gantz team from Tokyo and Osaka work together against a much more powerful alien than previously encountered.

GANTZ:O would be the latest adaptation of Oku’s gory science fiction manga, GANTZ which first ran from in the Young Jump weekly from 2000 till 2013.

The story centers on high school students Kei Kurono, who is killed in a subway accident in which he attempted to save a drunken man who has fallen onto the tracks. Resurrected, he woke up transported in an apartment with other resurrected people and a giant black sphere, Gantz. Kei and the others are given black suits that grants them superhuman abilities and are tasked with taking out aliens at the behest of Gantz.

Previously, the series have been subjected to various adaptations, starting with an animated series Gonzo studio that came out in 2004. The manga has also been made into two live action film in 2011, Gantz and Gantz: Perfect Answer.

In addition, the series has also been made into a Playstation 2 game in 2005 by Konami, titled Gantz: The Game which saw a Japan only release, on top of two prequel novels, Gantz: Minus and Gantz: EXA.

The latest fully 3DCG adaptation, GANTZ: O will be released in Japan on 14 October. Until then we will keep you posted on its latest development.
