At the end of the premiere of the compilation movie of Attack of Titan Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow,the second season of the anime was revealed for 2016 lineup. Right at the same time of the publication of the 20th tankubon volume manga. The film also revealed the release date of the second compilation film of the franchise on 27 June 2015 entitled Attack on Titan Part II: Wings of Freedom.

Part I of the compilation movie covers 13 episodes of the series and Part II rounds up the rest. Both movies are remastered with a 5.1 surround sound remaster and complete re-dubbing with the same casting.

So far, there are 14 tankubon volumes of the manga, a prequel novel and two spin offs in the franchise so far. 36 million copies of manga sold in the latest data estimate in April 2014.
