The Power of Apocalypse
Despite announcing that his mutant ability was control over his body at a molecular level, it seemed at first that Apocalypse’s mutation was that he had zero control over the molecules of his face, as he grimaced and contorted his face at the X-Men. Over the years, he has had a strange and sometimes confusing power set.
As he regularly attracts minions to be his “Horsemen”, often running to more than the traditional four, Apocalypse tended not to get his hands dirty very often. When he did, he seemed to rely mostly on turning his limbs into large hunks of metal, hardly the most fearsome of abilities.
He’s also displayed the ability to fire off blasts of energy from his hands as well although it’s never quite explained how he does this.
Over the years, it has slowly been revealed that En Sabah Nur, Apocalypse’s real name, may well be the first mutant in the X-men universe, born millennia ago in ancient Egypt, during the time of the Pharaohs. Although because nothing is ever simple in an X-men comic, the Pharaoh of the time, Rama-Tut, was, in fact, a time traveller (or rather a time-looter) from the year 3,000 who thought he could co-opt Apocalypse to becoming an ally.
Cast out by the tribe that birthed him due to his blue lips and grey skin; the brutal Sandstormers tribe adopted En Sabah Nur. He took on their ethos of survival of the fittest at all costs, long before Charles Darwin laid pen to paper, as his own. And after many betrayals, losses and the manifestation of his mutant powers, he comes into the possession of Celestial technology, tech which influences his look to the present day.
