Cinematic Apocalypse
We’ll have to wait until the premiere of the movie to find out how Bryan Singer will handle Apocalypse and how fares after his encounter with this new younger version of the Classic X-Men.
The advertising has made it abundantly clear that this Apocalypse has much in common with his comic counterpart. This includes everything from his origin to his four Horseman, that now counts Magneto, Storm, and Psylocke amongst their number along with the traditional Angel. However, there’s already been plenty of criticism on-line on his look for the movie and the statue of the actor playing him, the “so-hot-right-now” Oscar Isaac.
Whatever your thoughts on the costume (and Director Bryan Singer has already tried to put out that fire on-line) you have to admit it would be a waste of Isaac’s talent to hide him under a tonne of make-up just to match the comic book design. And apart from the design, movie Apocalypse looks mostly faithful to the comics (so far)
Where the film goes with En Sabah Nur after the credits, however, is anyone’s guess.
Depending on how much Fox plan to build their X-Empire after the reference-heavy Deadpool and how available Isaac is with his Star Wars commitments and all the other films he’s been tied to lately, could we see an Age of Apocalypse film?
Having already done the dark dystopian future with Days of Future Past, would Fox be so eager to retread such familiar ground again so soon (bearing in mind it wasn’t uncommon for the comic X-Men to frequently jaunt across time and space).
Could we see Oscar Isaac reduced to Kid Apocalypse/Genesis at the film’s climax or could Fox gamble on further linking their X-Men and Deadpool franchises and introduce a time travelling Cable at the end of X-men: Apocalypse, all set for Deadpool 2?
Considering the relative youth of Sophie Turner(Jean Grey) and Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), it might be a bit… odd having their son from the future, who is quite a bit older than them, turn up. Then again, considering the level of Easter eggs revealed so far; Sophie Turner tweeting a pic of herself and Cyclops holding a Dazzler album cover, and with the singer Dazzler herself having been an X-(wo)man at one stage, and the album cover image itself having been the cover of a the Dazzler #29 comic, who know how deep the rabbit hole may go.
