With the whole selfie culture being part of modern day culture, it’s no surprise that every phone maker is attempting to get into the game. Alcatel is no different and they’ve recently launched their own take of the selfie phone in the form of the Alcatel OneTouch Flash.
With a 5.5-inch IPS screen, the OneTouch Flash would definitely fall into the phablet category and it does come kitted with some decent specs as well, at least for something of its price range. It’s powered by a True Octacore 1.4 GHz processor and has 8GB of storage with 1GB of memory. You get Android 4.4.2 KitKat as its OS together with its own OneTouch UI.
Of coure being a selfie phone, it has to come with some decent camera specs as well. For the main back camera, you get a 13-megapixel shooter while the front camera, which you’re likely going to be selfie-ing with most of the time, has a 5-megapixel sensor.
It isn’t the hard specs of the camera that makes the OneTouch Flash a “selfie smartphone” as Alcatel would put it though. It’s the phone’s camera functions, in this case, Alcatel’s Smart Beauty Enhancement feature. With it, pictures taken are automatically “beautified”. No need for editing and such, just snap and voila, great selfies are ready.
And if you want that added level of narcissism by sharing your photos to other people (aside from mass social media-ing it of course), there’s the HotKnot feature that allows quick file transfers with a single touch of a button.
As for battery, it comes with a 3200mAh battery so that ought to give it some decent juice for use. And because it doesn’t come with LTE support, only up to 3G, you’re not going to see a big drain in that department.
So just how much are you going to fork out for this “selfie” phablet? It’s going at a pretty decent RM699. You’re not getting the phone only though. It’ll also be bundled with its own flip cover and a Sceen Care Warranty that’ll give you a one time screen replacement in the first 12 months of the phone ownership.
That’s not all, Alcatel also has a “BEaFlasher” promo where using the said code, you can get 50% off exclusive OneTouch Flash skins from Hydraskins.com. Not bad for a RM699 value.
The phablet availability will being on 12 December 2014 in Peninsular Malaysia while our East Malaysian neighbours will be seeing it hit their shelves on 15 December. And if you want a choice of covers, the OneTouch flash comes in either Crystal White or Gun Grey.
