Massive update on the X-Men universe, folks!
First, word on the wind says that the makers are going for a spin-off based on the movie universe called The New Mutants. A director has already been appointed for this task, Josh Boone who is responsible for The Fault in Our Stars. The series will feature a new cast and mutant characters to keep the franchise alive and fresh. Fox is visibly pleased with the director’s latest work and wants to keep him around for this one with Knate Gwaltney, Simon Kinberg and Laura Shuler-Donner producing it.
Simon commented, “We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.”
In the comics, the New Mutants original lineup consist of Cannonball, Mirage, Karma, Sunspot and Wolfsbane but it did not stay consistent as characters move in and out through the years. It is not clear when the shooting will start or if any of these mutants will appear in X-Men: Apocalypse though. Plus we don’t know if this is going to be a TV series or a movie too.
Secondly, Bryan Singer teased the fans with one photo from the movie, X-Men: Apocalypse. It is showing bunch of armed men with a child searching for something the dark woods. The director captioned this picture with this ominous message: The past catches up.
Judging from the lack of modern firearms on these guys, maybe these people are hunting down Magneto. What is the role of the kid in the image though? Hostage? Tracker? It could be anything.
The movie is scheduled for opening on 27 May 2016.
