Not too long ago, LG teased us with what would be their new smarwatch, the LG G Watch R. Now they’ve officially taken off the covers and we can finally see what it’ll really look like.
In the teaser we had a brief look at what it might have looked like, but with all the animation and such, we weren’t quite sure if that was the actual watch itself, or just some promo animation and illustrations. Well now we know and boy does it look sweet. As we mentioned before, this particular new smartwatch from LG looks more like an actual watch than a device made to look watch like. It certainly looks much more desirable than the plain circular Moto 360 in our opinion. Then again, until we see the actual watch in real life rather than these slightly rendered images, we can’t really pass too much judgement. The initial look and design itself though already has LG off to a good start.
Of course it isn’t just the image of the new LG G Watch R that has been unveiled. LG has also released the detailed specs of the watch and what we can expect from it. So is it as impressive as it looks? Well, for starters, it is an Android Wear device, which isn’t surprising but on top of that is what’s packed inside the watch. There’s the screen which is a 1.3 inch P-OLED display with 320 x 320 resolution, and its powered by the 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. It’s also chocked with sensors including a 9-Axis (Gyro/ Accelerometer/ Compass), Barometer and PPG. The sensors itself will be supporting the watches health functions which will come installed with LG health and fitness apps. All of this will be powered by a 410mAh battery and if you’re worried about the elements, don’t sweat it since the LG G Watch R is IP67 rated, meaning it’s dust and water resistant.
That’s not all. This watch is encased in a stainless steel frame and comes with an interchangeable 22mm calf skin leather strap. Like we said it’s more like your normal watch than your typical smartwatch that’s made to look like a watch.
With its official launch just next week, you might be wondering when it’ll be made available. According to LG, we should be seeing the watch in key markets by the fourth quarter of 2014. As for specific price, we”ll update this space once they announce them officially at IFA 2014.
