Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (Koutetsujou no Kabaneri)
This original anime by Wit Studio seems to be a marriage between Attack on Titan, several zombie and steampunk flicks. It comes as no surprise since the studio was behind the well acclaimed Attack on Titan series and with Tetsurō Araki himself directing the anime.
This time around, Araki’s directorial anime is set in an industrial era where humans have turned into aggressive undead creatures known as Kabane following a bite they received from a monster who cannot be defeated unless its heart – which is protected by a layer of iron – is destroyed.
Enter Ikoma, a boy who created a weapon called the Tsuranukizutsu to slay the undead creatures. His chance meeting with a girl named Mumei gives him an opportunity to test out his weapon. The series airs on April 8.
Watch it if: You’re sick and tired of Attack on Titan and prefer relishing in something similar and yet different.
