Just a couple of weeks ago, we broke the news that Hatsune Miku will be headed over to Malaysia this coming December. Aside from the date, very little else about the event was announced. Today though, everything has been revealed. So let’s take a look!
Organiser: Astro
Now if there’s one thing that scares any fan in Malaysia, is the prospect of being bamboozled into a fake event. Many a fan has been burned here in Malaysia due to fake events/concerts.
Fortunately, in the case of Hatsune Miku Expo 2017, there’s a pretty strong brand involved in the organisation and that it’s Malaysia own satellite broadcaster Astro.
Together with the Crypton Future Media, the creators of Hatsune Miku, it’s safe to say that with Astro’s involvement, many Miku fans will have a better sense of security and will more willingly part with their money for the concert.
Date: 16 December 2017
As we mentioned in our earlier story, the Hatsune Miku Expo Malaysia 2017 will be held on 16 December 2017. What is unfortunate though is that it’ll be clashing with Comic Fiesta and its Earthbound Papas (Nobuo Uematsu) concert that’ll be happening on the same day.
As both are whole day events, it’ll be interesting to see how local fans who have already planned or bought their tickets for Comic Fiesta and Earthbound Papas try to split their time.
When questioned why the date of 16 December was set, Astro representatives said that the discussions for the event were already being done way in advance and the booking for the venue had already been set, even before the official announcement of Expo/concert.
Venue: Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil
The Hatsune Miku Expo Malaysia 2017 will be held over at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Malaysia. Though the arena itself has a maximum seating of 16,000 people, concert goers will not have to worry about being jammed up like sardines in a tin.
Astro has allocated only 6,500 spaces for the concert that’s less than half of the maximum seating capacity and this is in order to maximise the overall experience of the concert for fans. More on the ticket arrangement below.
Also, the Hatsune Miku Expo Malaysia 2017 isn’t just a concert either. There’ll be pre-concert activities in addition to the concert at night. As such, marquees will be set up outside the Axiata Arena to support these additional Miku activities.
Activities
Which brings us to the Expo itself. Outside the main concert that will happen at the end of the Hatsune Miku Expo Malaysia 2017, there will be various other Miku related activities happening throughout the day as well as prior the Expo day.
However, details are a little lacking at the moment. When pressed on what activities we can expect at the Expo, Astro representatives said that most of them are still in their planning stages. They did, however, mention a few as teasers and these include:
- Mini concerts with Japanese DJs
- Kinect and Cyrpton games
- At least one Miku Cosplay event
- Exclusive Malaysian Hatsune Miku merchandise, some of which are collaborations with local Malaysian artists
- A pre-event T-shirt design contest where the winner’s design will be the official T-shirt of the concert
As for the concert itself, aside from Hatsune Miku performing herself, there will be opening acts by Zizan Razak, one of Malaysia’s top actor and performer as well as by Chaleeda Gilbert, one of Thailand’s hottest up and coming Youtube star/performer.
Also Kimitaka Nishio, the CEO Office Manager of Crypton Future Media said that there might be a possibility of their other Vocaloid idols making an appearance, though he did say it teasingly.
Since the pre-concert activities are still rather vague, we will be updating info on it as they come in so stay tuned.

Finally, the info that many of you would be waiting for. Ticket prices. As we mentioned earlier, there would only be 6,500 spaces for concert goers and the tickets will be split into four tiers; VIP Rockzone, Rockzone, Category 1 and Category 2.
